You could seriously damage the reputation of the company.

Think of it this way, if share holders, suppliers and purchasers know that the company you work for is in difficulty, this could cause huge cash flow issues as suppliers stop supplying because they may not get paid, purchasers go elsewhere because their orders may not be fulfilled when they have been paid out, and share holders will sell their shares, plummeting the value of the company.

That was just an example, but you get my point.

How its public knowledge or will be when people try to get in the closed down venues at weekend. How by saying I'm worried and hope my unit isn't next, is it damadging?

Rumours that a company is downsizing can have a huge negative effect on its trading position.

Some of the companies I have worked for you would have been instantly dismissed and tbh If you worked for me would be out the door. Trust in you would have evaporated instantly.

I don't think you can stop employees telling other people they are at risk of redundancy, dismissing them if they do could lead to a unfair dissmisal claim.

It will be public knowledge as soon as loads of people register with the agencies.

There are the disclosure requirements if over 19 people are to be made redundant.

If it is a public company then it should be notifiying shareholders so it would be public information that restructuing is going on anyway
