OK. Sorry for the multiple postings. I've found the problem.
markdavey's NZ National Trust is The QEII National Trust at http://www.openspace.org.nz/Site/Support_QEII/Membership/Membership.aspx which also gives reciprocal visiting to NT UK sites but does say "Financial members must currently reside in New Zealand and have a New Zealand postal address."
The one that I was referring to is New Zealand Historic Places Trust http://www.historic.org.nz which also gives reciprocal visiting to NT UK sites (but apparently with free parking not necessarily included), does not appear to require NZ residency to join, and seems to mail out membership to outside NZ.0 -

Thanks smudger. I've already renewed via Quidco and the English NT, but I'll have a look at the Scottish NT next year.0
