Hi, I joined the national trust thru quidco last year on an offer that allowed me membership plus free binocs for £20. I needed to set up a direct debit at the time. They have now sent thru this years membership cost which is £47 . My question is do I need to renew membership thru direct debit or can I cancel debit and join thru a discount offer when one is available again ? Am not being mean as membership is such good value but money is so very tight now. Any help appreceiated. thank you:o:o

Quit the NT in writing, Cancel at bank.
Join the New Zealand National trust (On Line) very much cheaper, and has reciprocal agreement with UK NT (Unlimited admission)This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
I know how you feel, I felt mean but charity begins at home and I always use the cafe and buy cards etc from the NT so don`t feel to guilty.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0

Quit in writing and send the new card, if they've sent one, back. Then join again.0

The same thing happened to me last year.
The money had already been taken from account, but I rang the National Trust and it wasn't a problem.
The money was refunded., and I sent my card back.
At the time my Mum was very ill and I didn't think we would "get our money's worth" because we weren't able to visit the locations.
However this year Mum ( still not good) is better than she was and has Carers going in to see her, so we have more spare time.
We joined again, separately though Quidco ( Cashback)
I will make sure in good time to cancel this years Direct Debit and will join again through Quidco who were very quick with £20 cashback
Hope this helps

Thanks for all replies. bryan great tip. feel a bit better at having to cancel now , but it is a great value ticket. I noticed some of the comments on the NZ tip at hot deals and am going to give this serious consideration. Thanks again.0

bryanb, you're probably no longer subscribed to this old thread, but if you are, were you also able to get free parking with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust card at UK NT properties, just as you would have done with UK membership? Same question goes to anyone else with a NZHPT card. Thanks.0 -
Just checked the NZ trust site and it states:
Financial members must currently reside in New Zealand and have a New Zealand postal address.0 -

Mark, was that condition you quoted on http://www.historic.org.nz , the site of NZHPT (New Zealand Historic Places Trust)? I have searched that site and I have also done a Google site search on that site, but can find no trace of the phase you mention, or part of it, or a similar condition.
Could you give me the link to where you found that condition?
(In contrast the online Application Form page merrily talks about Applications from Overseas, and that joining the NZHPT from outside New Zealand, your membership application will be processed within our normal turnaround period of 21 days blah blah..)0 -
However I note that on that same page on the NZ Trust site at http://www.historic.org.nz/Membership.aspx it does now say:
"Update
Please note that incorrect information is circulating that our membership benefits include free parking at sites in the UK. Charges may apply for parking, use of amenities and at times of special events and exhibitions."0
