Heathrow/Singapore Airlines

Hi
Can anyone help
O have never flown from Heathrow and am going to NZ via Singapore with Singapore Airlines. Do you know what there is through the customs part at Heathrow.
Then more importantly what is there at Singapore airport as we have 3 hours there. Also how much money do you advise and what currency?? There are only 2 of us, myself and hubbie but am having brain overload. Too much to do before Friday and need advise
Thanks x 1000!

Try here for useful info about Singapore Airport. Everything will be in Singaporean dollars, and this site lists all the facilities where you can waste (yes waste, airport prices remember!) your money.

I haven't flown to NZ via Singapore yet, but it's definitely the way I will be going next time - I've heard rumours of the topnotch facilities and after a previous stopover experience at LAX I will not be flying with any carrier that stops there EVER.

Heathrow Customs should be fine. Do you have specific concerns?

Edited to add: sorry I just realised that you were talking about what facilities were at Heathrow once you were through Customs, not about how tough they were or what procedure they followed. I have not had enough sleep this weekend!

    Heathrow Airport facilities.

The usual shops after customs, for eating drinking and shopping.

Singapore airport is very good with a huge range of shops and stuff.

Nationwide credit card is best to spend with, but if you don't have one (shame on you!) then the airport will accept most major currencies but not at a good rate.

    Hi

Singapore Airport is great for stopovers. You can easily spend three hours there. I've flown Singapore to NZ and Australia and they are a great airline, tasty food, 'on-demand' films and attentive staff, but you didn't ask that!
This time coming back from Oz we had about 5 hours in Singapore. If you don't fancy wandering round the airport you can go upstairs and pay about £10-12 to use a lounge while you wait. Included in this is soft drinks (tea, coffee, cans of coke, water etc) and 'small' food (sandwiches, little pie/samosa type things, soups salad and cakes) and you can use the showers (they provide towels, hairdryers etc). You can pay extra to use the gym as well (with trainers and clothes loaned). There are also newspapers and magazines. And the seats are comfortable enough for a snooze ;) It might not be exactly money-saving but I think we got our money's worth out of it and meant we felt a lot fresher when we got back on the plane.

Otherwise there is still plenty of free stuff to do. Apart from wandering round the shops, there is a sunflower garden to sit in (which reminds you why the airport has air conditioning) and a cinema where they show films all day.

Sorry, have written far too much but basically, don't worry there is plenty to do. Also, we paid for the lounge with a credit card and I think most of the places in the airport take multiple currencies (including GBP and NZD I think).

Feel free to PM me if you want more info (I can try and remember about Heathrow and NZ as well!) I'm very jealous!!

Singapore Airport is by far the best airport I've been through.

You can pay to have a shower (nice if you've just spent the last 7hrs trying to sleep at the check in desk while there's a check in for a pilgrimage flight going on!), you can book a room at the airport hotel for a couple of hours and get some sleep. There's a free 'cinema', some sort of gardens you can walk around, free internet and much much more.

I was a bit disapointed that boarding time came so soon......

Sorry, only just seen your reply. I paid by credit card for the lounge and it was about £10-12 each. You don't need to book in advance. It's upstairs from all of the shops / duty free places. There are lots of signs and booklets with maps of the airports so you shouldn't have any problems finding the lounge. There are two lounges - we went to this one but there are more options listed here .

Sorry - didn't buy much while we there - too busy snoozing in the lounge! :D

My own personal take on Changi airport. I would say it is the BESTEST airport in the world. I also think three hours is too little time at the airport!!

There is SO much to do there!! It has its on gym, swimming pool, cinema, food courts, free internet (and free wi-fi), lots of shopping, lots of massive TV screens, sunflower garden and more!!

Have great time there. Also SQ is a real treat of an airline to fly with. Register with them and you can check in online 48 hours before your flight (thereby nabbing some decent seats and not having to go to the airport so early).
