Better to go to windows update or the manufacturers website of the component and get the latest drivers, if you want to, but if it's stable, I'd leave well alone!

Companies such as Dell, save support pages for each machine with all the latest drivers. Good for a reinstall.
  • It is best to leave the driver alone if it's running ok. A lot of times if you try to upgrade the drivers without removing the old one can cause problem.

Also only use update drivers from manufacturer's website and not from other sources as they are highly likely to be dangerous in terms of virus or malwares affecting the computer.

I wouldn't use any tools like driver detective. Firsly go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and download all appropriate updates and service packs. Secondly go to the laptops' manufacturer web site, select your laptop then carefully select drivers for the specific components in your machine.

Before installing any driver you've download read the readme.txt file included to ensure it's suitable for your PC.

    Agreed, use the manufacturers website.

Please avoid Driver Detective - seems to be an expensive istake from the searches I've made and the fact that they wont refund me despite a request made within 24 hours of purchase when i found it didnt solve my issue.

    Driver Detective Review

I'd certainly steer clear of it. Follow davidmt83 advice above I think.

I would CERTAINLY advise you stay clear of these 'driver detective' services.

I also believe the old adage "If it aint broke, don't fix it".

If you have a system which is running happily, leave it be, and get on with using it. Remember, your PC is a tool to work for you. Too many people seem to think they need to tinker about with it, and end up apparently working for their computer.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Find out exactly what hardware you have in your machine, make a list and then when you want to update drives visit each manufacturers website, I never touch drivers from MS as have had previous bad experiences from them with network drivers which then knock the machine off the network so you can download the old one again lol

This is one of the bolt ons I offer when I visit someones premises for a job
