Loss of work and flights booked, refund options?

Hi,
I am looking for help as I am set to lose a lot of money!! I have been given notice by my work along with all other employees. I have a holiday booked in 4 weeks time, I am insured, I can not go due to the need to find other work and because I will have no money once there. I have looked into my insurance policy wording which states I can only claim for cancellation due to redundancy if I have been employed at the same place for more than two years....I have been there 14 months!
My tickets are non-refundable, non-transferrable.........can anyone suggest any options as I am set to lose a lot of money that I have saved for this trip? Any help much appreciated.

All the best,

T23

Sorry to hear about your job. If you can not get a refund, don't waste the money you have already spent and go anyway just try to live as cheaply as possible.

You can look for a new job when you return. Good luck

    I echo sidefx post.
Having paid for yor holiday i would presume you have also saved up for spending money.

there is no way you are going to get refunded because you are not technically redundant.

Get yourself away on holiday, it will only be one week that you wont be able to look for work. Lifes too short.
Just go and have a good time. Look for work now and when you come back. simple as
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It might be worth looking into getting the taxes back on the flights if you cancel. I don't think airlines are allowed to keep the taxes on flights and that element of the flight can be refunded. Quite often they make up a large portion of the cost of the flight, so it might be worth checking with the airline concerned.

    Good point simpsons fan.

The only advice i can offer is try and sell the holiday on gumtree (A free website to sell things) and offer it slightly cheaper.

They will have to pay for the name change not sure of the price of this.

The same thing happend to me and thats what i did yes you may lose a little money but its better to get something back than nothing at all.

Hope this helps and good luck in finding a job :-)

The OP has said that the tickets are non transferrable.

I agree with the suggestion to get anyway - the holiday's already booked and you don't need to spend any more money than you do at home, in fact you won't be using any utilities so will save a bit.
