Hi Sackcloth. You mentioned in a previous post that you thought it would be polite to start another thread, rather than hijacking one of Truego's.

I was thinking you could set one up along the lines of "Meeting the Challenge of Unemployment" - but I am sure that some of the creative types can come up with something more eye catching and punchy! She throws down the gauntlet ....

    Brill idea scrooge!

    .

rosered1963, if I can put my professional hat on, (puts on her lollypop outfit). I think you are being very hard on yourself. You sound like you have had a huge amount of stress over the last couple of years, but you have always behaved honourably. You could easily have been suffering from a kind of burn out. One person can only cope with so much, before the brain needs a good rest.

Baby steps are called for, which you know you can achieve, and give yourself a big pat on the back and a reward when you achieve them. Build on this foundation. If you aim too high too quickly, you could get discouraged.

Thanks very much Scrooge - I had never thought of that, but it's so true.

This is my first post - hi everyone :D

First of all, this thread makes me feel better (not the being unemployed part, but the part that makes me realise I am not alone).

This will be my 7th week without work. I graduated from uni last year with a degree in law, and got a job with RBS. Things were going wel until I lost my job in May. Its the first time I have ever been out of work and its awful, truly awful.

Luckily, I have lots of interviews coming up, although its only been the last week that this has happened. Its a horrible place not knowing where the next wage is coming from, and so annoying to know that I am not using my skills, but cant afford to retrain to do what I really want to do. I am lucky that my boyfriend has been supporting me since I moved from Edinburgh to Manchester to be with him - goodness knows what I would do if I had kids or my own mortgage.

My experience of the staff from the job centre...well, I wont even tell you all what I think. Not good, to say the least. I dont qualify for dole (although I went to uni, I didnt pay enough NIC. How funny to think I did what was drummed into me from a young age and went to uni in order to get a better job, got in debt, and now that I dont have one, I am not getting much help. Thats another moan for another day though :D.....)

Some of the posts here are funny, and are making me realise that things could always be worse, so thanks, and hello to all

Hi Louise - amen to of that. I am intrigued - what is it that you would really like to do but don't have the money to retrain for? There are always ways, and you have a good degree..

    Hello :D

I want to get into Social work - the fees are a lot, and apparently the chances of me getting funding is slim. I am just going to take any jobs I can and save up some money in the hope I can go back to uni in a couple of years. I dont think I am a 'corporate' type of person. I am confident that I will get a job and that this will happen for me.

I really wish I hadn't picked law at uni :rotfl:

Hi Louise - I know what you mean about corporate. I'm the same.

So, you would need to do a post grad one year course in social work, I think. I can see why you don't want more debt! :) My degree is in Politics so I think yours is more use :) hope to see you again on the thread. I am off to tart up my CV :)

Wouldn't you be eligible for the Social Work bursary for the post grad course?

Yeah, I did look into that but was told by someone over the phone that I wouldnt be guaranteed it. Is it something that most students get? That is certainly what I thought.

I don't think you're guaranteed it in the way you're guaranteed a Student Loan but lots of people do get it. I'm surprised you were put off so easily when you say you're so keen to do it.
