Rent book needed for lodger via rent a room scheme?

Hi There,
I will potentially be taking a lodger in within month or two. I will be paid from the lodger via Electronic standing order every week. I didn't believe I needed rent book as all the payment would be traceable on my bank statement. A colleague has advised me to get rent book and get myself and the lodger to sign it once I have received the rent money every week. Is this needed or will electronic traceability be enough?
Please advise me.

You legally have to supply a rent book if you have contracted for rent to be paid weekly, i.e. it's a weekly tenancy as stated on whatever form of written agreement you have in place with your lodger.
(If they pay monthly and your rent period is monthly then you do not need a rent book)0
