Any sandy beach suitable for day out from London?

Thanks for the input so far. Still haven't made up our mind as to where to go.
Moonchild - Thanks for the info about Brighton. I know Brighton is a shingle beach rather than a sandy beach. Might still go there at £13.50 as we can look at other stuff if the weather isn't too good. BTW I was really surprised at the difference in price when I searched for Brighton using different searches eg. nationalrail, nationalexpress and southernrail for the same date and time of travel and using Railcard.0 -
I have noticed that travelling on the norfolk trains to and from london you can reserve and book cheap tickets, but on the essex trains that's not available - even though the trains run through essex and are the same company! Maybe that's got something to do with the varying prices on other routes too. I don't know why they can't offer the same services throughout their company.0
