    ok so a £300 loss.

usually the GAP insurers require you to not accept any offer from your insurer until they have approved it (for obvious reasons)

bearing in mind the car was worth £5,300 was the answer not to push the insurers to settle for a higher value than £4,700 rather than blaming the GAP company?

    *dons flak helmet*

My Dad feels he got the most out of the ins co he could. It took 2 weeks of negotiating with them and about 3 offers he turned down before accepting £4700.

Maybe he could have got more out of them if he had kept fighting we just don't know, but to be honest Dad wanted it all over with so he could get another car as they (Mum & Dad) were relying on relatives for every trip needed to be done by car.
Dad was in a lot of pain at the time, from the accident. Numerous broken ribs, broken collarbone and a fractured wrist so he wasn't in the best of moods to be arguing with ins co's either. (I wanted to take over the negotiations but he wouldn't let me, said he couldn't keep putting on me  )
We tried to gather evidence that the car wasn't worth as much as they (the GAP co) said but their criteria for this just didn't make it possible. We could find no cars of the same age and roughly same mileage as my Dads that were within the mileage radius they gave us.

Looking back maybe we were naive to just assume the GAP co would automatically pay out the £300 and not value it at more than he paid for it......we live and learn.
At the end of the day we still have my Dad and that's all that matters.

Sorry that went on so long :o
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

Glad he's better, it is only a car - but sorting out claims all adds to the trauma of having an accident.

Glad I saw this thread. The VW salesman was pushing this gap insurance to us too - mind you he also wanted £400 for scotchguarding the car and Im told that can be done for less than £100.
