Nursery funding from 3 years?

my little girl was 3 in May and looking at our local education authority website she will be entitled to 12.5 hours worth of funding per week. She has been going to nursery twice a week since she was 9 months old.

The website states that the 12.5 hours should consist of 5 2.5 hour sessions. So I was wondering if this means we would only be entitles to 2.5 x 2 as she goes twice a week or if the whole 12.5 hours could come out of the 2 full days?

I'm pretty sure I know what the answer is going to be but I can dream! We're looking to move house so the extra money would really help at the moment.

hi there, i used to nursery nurse before i had my DD so think i have the info you need.
'Sessions' are counted as morning and/or afternoon sessions, (although the actual times differ from setting to setting) so if you LO goes 2 full days per week she would be entitled to 4 sessions for those 2 days (with you paying for the early morning part, the lunch part and any time after the afternoon session. She will also be entitled to a 5th session if you can organise that with the nursery, eg one morning or afternoon.

You should work out a bit better off only paying the extra bits either side of the sessions rather than the whole day. HTH

This only applies during TERM TIMES though as it is considered early education funding, just so you can prepare yourself for the holidays.

    Hi wysiwyg78,

Smithyjules is correct but just wanted to add that you will get funding issued the term after she turned 3 so this would mean your funding doesn't actually start til September.
I know this as my daughter turned 3 in April last year and due to the Easter falling early she missed the start of the term time by a few days, I was gutted I had to wait until September too.

It makes no difference when Easter is. The term after the third birthday is misleading - our daughter's birthday was the Thursday after Easter this year so still in the Easter hols, but she still has to wait until September.

Any child born after 1 April will be eligible for free hours on 1 September.

My daughter goes to nursery 9-3 every day and they refund £500 (ish) per term off the total termly bill. A friend of mine's DD is still in 'day care' nursery (8am-6pm fulltime) and they get £100 ish per month off their fees. Just ask you rnursery how they sort it out for you (as they are the ones who claim the money back on your DD's behalf). HTH

the entitlement is going up to 15 hours next september in some areas and the following september for all areas. it will depend on how your local authority will be administering the funding as to how you can take it. the best thing to do is to either talk to the manager of the nursery, they will know if they are one of the settings offering 15 hours and how it is going to be administered, alternatively contact your local early years and childcare service nad they will be able to help as they administer the funding.

You can also split it between providors.

My DD goes to creche 2 full days (where we get 4 sessions paid that comes back into our bank account quarterly). She then does 3 sessions at pre-school on the days she is not at creche (where we get 1 session funded which we do not have to pay for & the other 2 sessions 1 pay for).

The reason she goes to two places is because she goes to my work creche on my work days & we wanted her to get to know the people she will go to school with so she was not on her own on her first day. She will be starting school in Sept & she knows at least 7 children in her class.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys, my little boy is 3 this Sunday does that mean hat i can get some hours free from the nursery? He currently goes from 8.30 - 12.30 for 2 days a week and is starting 'big school' on 4th September, i work part time and the fee's are a nightmare, we do get help but not much, this would be a godsend, what do we have to do if we qualify?

Sorry to disappoint you, but the funding starts the term after the 3rd birthday, so your little one won't be entitled until September. And as he is starting school then, they will be no funding for nursery. (Seems early to be starting school?)
