County Cavan, EIRE

We're going to a Friday wedding in Lough Sheelin Crover, Mountnugent, County Cavan in August, the festivities are going to carry on with a party on Saturday but OH and I are hoping to escape the madness and spend the Saturday night somewhere nice by ourselves as it'll probably be our only chance to get away this summer.
Our flight home is from Dublin on Sunday evening so we're pondering whether to stay around the area where the wedding is being held (but don't want to be too close and risk offending the bride by bumping into anyone) or head back to Dublin or go somewhere else?! We weren't planning to hire a car but could do so if necessary.
We've been to Dublin before a couple of times and enjoyed it, but found it pretty expensive and a bit touristy, so I'd like to see some other bits of Ireland.

Any ideas and advice will be welcomed!!
