Green Flag rip off

Can someone help me.

My wife and I changed cars in April. We changed the insurance which cost us a £17 cancellation charge which we can live with. I then went for quotes for breakdown cover and got the same cover online 75% cheaper than green flag!! (Yup,75%)

So,in my wisdom I cancelled the direct debit as it does say in their booklet, "This policy can be cancelled at anytime". Yes, I know I should maybe have rang them first.

Now they want us to pay the full annual premium which means they want us to pay £65,(Thus without cover!!). We were 6 months into the contract and bear in mind the fact that this was us in the 3rd year with them. The first year it was £6 then the 2nd year it went to £9 then the 3rd year it was just short of £12. They are wanting the outstanding balanced paid by yesterday but i have not as i am waiting on the FSA to ring me back. I also received a letter from them stating that the full annual premium should be paid if we have used the breakdown cover which we have not either. And also the policy has been cancelled from the 20/04/09.

I am at my wits end with them as i dont want adverse credit as my mortgage is up for renewal next year.

Shall we start going into supermarkets and give them £65 for an empty trolley?!?!?!?! Please help!

I would not bother, I called them out last week after been with them 2 years (so I thought) Only to be told they had not renewed my cover after the first year (if they can do it, why not you), I hadn't noticed it was no longer coming out of bank DOH!

    Their website makes things clear:
"As long as you've not called us out during your period of breakdown cover, we'll give you a partial refund. We base the amount of your refund on a daily rate minus a cancellation charge of 50% of the annual price of your cover. Unfortunately we can't provide a refund on the European element of our top level of cover, EuroPlus. For more information, please call one of our representatives on 0845 246 1557."

So, you've got 50% of your policy term left. They then deduct a 50% charge, which means you still owe them 50% of the policy cost, i.e. the remainder of the policy.
