Save-to-give charity campaign

There is a new charity fundraising campaign run via a blog that gives a moneysaving tip each week and asks people to donate part of the saving that they make to charity - e.g. if the tip saves them a tenner they might donate a fiver. They're in Week 4 now - they had a week of reviewing the household bills with links to MSE and then a "Week of Happy Ignorance" saving money by not buying a newspaper and also avoiding news on radio/TV/online to see if they were happier by the end of it. This week they're doing moneysaving on greetings cards, making them for pennies and they reckon it will save you £40 over the year. They're doing a new tip each week for a year.

The campaign is called "Just Four Quid" and they are featured on Justgiving[dot]com's newsblog today (if you scroll down the Justgiving homepage and click the green thing on the right, you'll get there). Sorry not to provide links - I'm a newbie and terrified of setting off some sort of spam/scam alert!

I reckon all charities could use this method - especially in the recession! They actually aim to leave donors better off by the end of the year, even though they'll have given to charity.

Do you think other charities will pick up on this? Apparently, charity takings are down because of the economy.

  • It's a good site and I'm surprised it hasn't had more media coverage. This week they're doing the best way to sell your unwanted books.
