over the last few dates some random programmes i have tried to record has come up saying clash. i thought initially it may mean that i was trying to tape too many programmes at once, but that cant be the case as i have checked the channels and it was the only programme i was taping?? could it be not enough space left or is it something glaringly obvious that i am missing???

The only thing that occurs to me is that one of your inputs is dead. The box has two feeds from your dish. One of mine died a few months ago due to a bad connection. I had to pull the plug* out the back, fiddle around, and stick it back in. I'm waiting for it to go again some time.
There is a way of checking the signal strength of each input (using the on screen menu) but I can't remember it offhand. I'm sure another kind soul will illuminate, or a quick Google should. If one of the inputs is showing as no signal then that's your problem.
EDIT: * There are two plugs in the back, one from each feed from the dish. Hopefully you can work out which is which!0 -
If you have a quad LNB, and only two feeds, you could also try swapping those to the two spares. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Recording of programmes start a few minutes before and finish a few minutes after the scheduled times - did you have recordings set before or after the clashed one?0

i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago - if i was watching something thru the sky dish, it couldnt record another side on sky +.
I unplugged it, counted to 20, plugged it back in and its worked fine since. If you ring sky up, thats what they tell you to do! (read that on here ages ago!)
try it, you've nothing to lose.0
