Much to popular demand - here is the picture of the bird table (mark 2)

The previous one blew down in the winter./ autumn and i have only recently got round to repairing it. The reason i lost interest is that i am pretty certain the song thrushes that nested in a fir tree at the other end of the garden are no more. As no activity had been seen in the fir tree for a while , i had a sneak look to find the corpses of 4 little white chicks in the nest-obviously died of hunger. the adult birds had obviously become too trusting of me as i would sometimes get up early in the morning and dig out holes , so they could collect worms.Added to that, the arrival of my free range chickens killed the food supply in my garden and they had to forage further afield-dodging cats and cars. Believe me it was very upsetting to see their little bodies in the nest. I promptly cremated them and lost a bit of interest.. The new table is basically the same as the last but with a wooden drawer on which the water bowl is placed as well as the food. I only placed food there yesterday and topped up the hanging feeders. However the birds do still get chased away by the chooks if they land in the garden.

For the roof of my birdtable i have an old plastic lampshade. It's see through and like half a football shaped.
I can lower it almost to the table so that the smaller birds can get in to feed but the flying rats (pigeons) can't.
