Please help paypal have frozen my account!

Options
Hi all,

Logged onto pyapal today, very surprised to find out paypal had limited my accoutn because they apprantly review a few hundred accoounts every month and flag those which may concern them. So to verify my accoutn they need me to fax them a valid photo ID, a recent bank statement of the bank account registered with the account and and a recent utility bill.

The problem is i have two paypal accounts. My first one was opened in my name until via ebay auctions i realised i couldn't accept credit/debit card payments as i had to upgrade my account. I was preapred to do this but when uoi upgrade the account the account to accept credit card payments a fee is tkane for these payments and any non- credit/debit card payments (i.e. paypal to paypal account). This was a problem as i got a large no. of transactions like this, and beinga debt-ridden student mean i had to save as much cash as possible.

So, i opened up a second paypal account in my dads name - with his permission - (i didn't think there was anything wrong in this). So this account could accept debit/credit card payments and i could then keep my old account for regular non debit/credit payments.

I'm really worrie about this as now when i send a photcopy of my ID, the name is not gonna match the name listed with paypal (my Dad's) and neither will the name on the bank statement etc. Plus, i sent about 60 pounds from that account to bank accoutn and it hasnt reached it yet (because of this) and i have another 70 pounds lying in the paypal account! Could someone please tell me what to do, any help would be appreciated

Thank you so much

Sorry, I can't think of an honest answer that will help. It's possible that Paypal have taken action because they've spotted what you've been up to.
Best bet is probably to come clean and try to get the cash back (or to your Dad) that way.
    Can I help?

    Hiya!
Firstly...You are allowed two PayPal accounts in your name - one as a Premier account and one as a Personal account if you have a second bank debit or credit card to link it with. This can be found here: https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&nodeid=25816&leafid=1455&prior_transaction_id=40336&answer_id=16777217

    Q. Can I have multiple PayPal accounts?
    A. Yes. PayPal members may have one Personal account and one Premier or Business account. You can add additional email addresses, credit cards, debit cards and bank accounts to your Personal, Premier or Business account. However, each account must have its own email address and financial information.

As the account in question is your basically your Dad's you need to fax his ID, his Bank statement etc. I am guessing you got flagged in their system because you were receiving payments (with your name and eBay details) into somebody elses account (under your Dad's details).

If the bank details in PayPal don't match with the details on your Dad's bank statement your account will be locked (no question). PayPal don't mess when it comes to locking accounts.

You will need to verify the details for the account they have placed on hold.In which case it will be your dads bank statements etc. You might find they may also stop your other account once they notice the link and ask you to verify details for the other one too.

Not good news, I'm afraid - Paypal are regulated by the FSA, are following their antimoneylaundering procedures and you've committed identity fraud (albeit with your father's permission). Unless you can persuade your father to provide his ID details and bank account details, I can't see how you can get at this money.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Totally agree, the person whose name the paypal account is open in will have to id themselves, otherwise the account will remain frozen.

This process is due to UK money laundering laws and is designed to catch out people eusing false information, or accounts in someone elses name which would be considered a no no.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm thinking of writing a sympathetic letter to PayPal to explain that i'm young, i didn't know youcould have two seperate accoutn in your own name, hence which will hopefully work why i took my dads and say i can provide all my ID to them and my dads. But the problem still lies in the fact that my bank account is registered with the account so if i send a bank statement it will have my name on it

after all this has blown over....i recommend you start using nochex (uk based & a much 'friendlier' company to deal with) and ditch the company known as paypal. certainly not my 'pal'

Yeah theres still £70 lying in the account and i sent £60 to my bank accoutn which hasn't reached it yet, i presume its 'been held' while this is rtoed i guess.
  • Just send them the details, my DH had this before as we only had my bank account at the time (which later was made into a joint account) so I sent them my bank statements with his ID & a covering letter saying he didn't have a bank account of his own so he was having the money transferred into my account, no problems at all - was all sorted in about a week.
