Nationwide problems

Hi, I've just been told that I'm going to be charged £60 for two DD failures. It's outrageous! I'm currently on JSA and that is almost one weeks money for me. I've attempted to close the acc but because these charges are outstanding they won't allow me to. What should I do? Just leave the account empty and let them charge away? !!!!!!!s.

If it is the first time that this has happened then see if they will refund the charges as a Gesture of Goodwill, if not cancel the Direct debits to avoid further charges on that.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

    I agree with natweststaffmember.

If it is a 1st time, then they should refund the charge. Make sure you pursue it and don't just leave it otherwise the charges will leave you overdrawn and you will be charged for an unauthorised overdraft if you do not have an agreed overdraft. If you can not afford the charge and the society will not refund if it is not your 1st time then you can claim a refund under 'Hardship'. They will look at your income and outgoings and assess your affordibility.

They will help you, but just don't leave it otherwise you'll have a larger debt to clear.

    Best of luck.
