Reclaiming bank charges if you're employed by the bank

I've recently advised someone who is in some debt to look into the possibility of reclaiming their bank charges. The problem is that they work for Lloyds TSB and that's who their account is with (I think it's a necessity of working there).

My view is is that if bank charges are unfair, they're unfair regardless of if you work for the bank or not. However, I could see it as being frowned upon as you're bringing a claim against your employer.

Has anyone had any experience of this or any advice to offer?

Providing they doesn't have defaults or CCJ's then they should be fine. If they are suffering financial problems they should speak with their line manager. Unfortunately some banks may see claiming charges back from their own employees in a different light to usual claimants.

  • They probably should not be working in a bank if they are running their account badly. Conflict of interest.

Simon, there are people who work in different areas of the bank, ie IT, legal, manufacturing who do not necessarily have direct access to their accounts or even the same kinda attitude as say branch staff and/or contact centre staff.

You're absolutely right, if it goes that far, then no one would do in financial services as the screening would pick that up. Some people don't get that far but close to it.
