£25 Discount Voucher Code Issue

Further to the recent issue of the abuse of a specific £25 discount code; the Company acknowledges that while we were entitled to take a firm stance against this code abuse, as supported by Liverpool Trading Standards, the fact that we have done so has caused concern amongst some of our customers.

As a gesture of goodwill, on this occasion the Company has agreed it will take no further action to claim the £25 from those people who were not entitled to the discount. In addition, for those customers who have already paid the £25, it will make a refund of this amount. Any additional related charges will be refunded, or reversed if not yet paid.

Customers have the responsibility to ensure they are using a discount for which they are eligible. Our terms & conditions (attached) make it clear that promotional codes must only be used by customers who qualify for them. These can be viewed on the website.

The Company confirms that no default information will appear at the credit reference agencies as a result of the action it has taken.

If in doubt customers should only use discount codes which have been given to them directly by the Company, and should check the conditions which apply to them.

2.3 Where you have redeemed a promotional code or any other offer ("a Code") against your order, acceptance of this order is subject to our verifying that the Code has been issued to you personally, that you comply with all the terms of the offer and qualify for the Code. In the event that the Code has not been issued to you for your personal use or you do not qualify for the offer, the price of the order will be adjusted notwithstanding any email or other confirmation that you receive."

Browntoa thanks, but people have been posting and using codes successfully since then - wondering why you're reminding people now?

I think Browntoa is just reminding people to be cautious when using the codes as it is always possible that the same problem could arise again and noone is going to listen to the 'but, but, but it was accepted at checkout blah de blah' if the companies decide to claim back the money. It's the chance you take when using codes that aren't issued to you - you have to accept that some you win, some you lose.
However I *believe* the code in question was specifically meant for people who had a credit card with the particular company so it would have been very easy for them to find out who 'should' have used it and who shouldn't

it happened again recently , people need to post the source and conditions of the codes , the people who use them need to be sure that they are entitled to use the code

A couple of weeks ago we received an email from a distraught customer of Littlewoods called Mary. According to Mary, the catalogue company had added £500 worth of charges to her account for goods ordered over a six month period, because she had used discount voucher codes circulated online.

I had a letter recently with £10 off a £50 spend. I lost the letter and called up and the lady gave me this code zq598... so not sure if it's a generic one, as she didnt take any of my details.

Code ZQ762 gives £10 off a £30 spend but it works on 3 for 2 before 3rd free item is taken off. Which means if you order 3 £10 gifts after 3 for 2 and then £10 discount total to pay is £10.

I just ordered 3 £12 gifts from Empire for £14.

Hope they give out some more codes.
