I am starting a teaching job on Monday and my fiance has been working for a year. We are looking at houses to buy but his bank want 3 months of my payslips before they will give us a mortgage. I am wondering if there are any mortgages out there that might be available to us without the 3 months? Should we see a mortgage advisor to find one? We don't want to have to wait 3/4 months.
thanks

Is the teaching job permanent and do you have a contract for it you can provide?0

A mortgage from your own bank may not be the best one for you. See a mortgage broker but check out the MSE main site for more details about this first.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Am I missing something.
If you are truthful on your application you would have said you have not been working for the last three months, so would not have been asked for payslips. Or are there a few little porkies creeping in?0 -
we went to the bank and said i am starting work soon and they said they need 3 payslips to prove my income.0

I think the person you are dealing with at the bank quite possibly doesn't know what they are talking about. If you have a contract stating your salary along with confirmation of your start date you should be ok providing they don't have a minimum length of employment criteria.
Does it fit on your partners income alone? you would be well advised to find a quality whole of market broker for some help with this. good luck, it sounds like exciting times!Happily an ex mortgage broker!0 -
they might have that criteria, we only went in to see how much we could possibly borrow and have not been advised on anything. it has to be a joint mortgage for the house we are looking at. i think we might have to see an adviser, we dont want to be conned just becuase we are first time buyers. thanks0

Your credit score will take account of the fact you have not been long in job. Note a general credit score is not the same as a mortgage lenders score.
Most lenders will want the job to be permanent and not probationary although there can be exceptions.
Nationwide might be worth a punt.0
