Unfair bank charge - lloyds tsb

Last month I went over my overdraft (by accident, 35 pounds) and then got told by letter I would be getting charged 15 pound A DAY until i paid this!
I then tried to pay the 35 pounds i was overdrawn by back into my Lloyds TSB account to stop the daily 15 pound charge, but as it was Bank Holiday I couldn't and then I found out I was still gettin charged 15 pound daily which i think for one is very unfair!
That's not the worst of this though.....I payed what i was overdrawn into my account and then had a chat with someone in the bank after i did this and explained the situation. He told me (after looking pn his computer etc.) that I would only be getting charged 30 pounds and NOT the 100+ pounds that I thought I would for the 15 pound a day penalty.
I was rather pleased with this and next payday I budgeted as usual. I did NOT budget for the 100+ pounds fine and only the 30 pound fine as i went with what the man TOLD me in the bank.
I have then today gone inside my online banking to check my balance, only to find a charge on the 1st of june 09 of 135 pounds!! and again, because of this charge ive gone over my overdraft which means i will be again getting the 15 pound a day penalty charge until I have payed it back in! I can not however as i dont have the funds to do so! I would of accepted paying the 135 pound fine if i got TOLD i would be gettin charged this on the day I spoke to the guy in his office at Lloyds TSB but the man clearly told me it would be only 30 pounds!! WHAT NOW!? please help, im so angry!!!!!!! Im ready to ring them but dont know what approach to take. I dont know the mans name in Lloyds but I would recognise him! Please help me!!!:mad::mad:

I have just (calmly) rang lloyds tsb and the woman I spoke to sounded a bit shocked and what i had been told and sympathised with me. She rang one of the Nottingham branches for me but then came back on the phone to tell me that there is no notes of my conversation with the man so she couldnt do anything apart from offer me a extension on my overdraft which i refused as I can borrow the 33 pound i have gone overdrawn to stop the 15 pound daily charge. Still very angry and now going to attempt ringing the branch i went into that day!:mad:0

I think you need to put this in writing to the bank, state you were told you would be charged £30 and budgetted for it and were charged a lot more. Ask them to refund the difference as clearly you were misinformed(I would claim back the rest through the normal method outlined by Martin on this site).0 -
Thanks for your advice!
Would you not recommend going into the bank itself and trying? As i know which of there employers told me this! I know theres a danger of him denying it but what if im firm and sort of refuse to leave lol or something until something good is done. I still so angry because hes employed by the bank itself and cant even give one of his customers the correct information!!!0 -

I would put it in writing. Let's be honest, you would be fuming and may not get everything you want to say in the right order especially if they stick to their guns or dispute what was said. If you put something down in order of how it happened and the name or description of the member of staff then you can explain what has happened and how the mistake has caused further issues.
If they say know then escalate it further up the chain of command with them.0 -
Thanks again!
Do you think I have a good chance of getting the result I want? e.g the current charge being refunded? The new charge to come for being overdrawn again being payed for? or do you think they will stick by the employee and dismiss my claim by saying i have no hard evidence?
Im not blaming their staff for getting me in this mess as such because it was my fault i forgot about an outgoing which caused me to go over my overdraft but due to his misleading information it has now caused me to be further charged and in debt and that could of been stopped if i budgeted for 100pound plus penalty in the first place. I mean, your going to trust what 'your' bank says to your face after all aren't you? sorry to go on, but due to this i have no further money for myself for the remainder of the month and now have to prepare for another penalty, as it was given to me 1st of June and now the 33 pound overdrawn wont be paid till tomorrow which equals four days x 15 pound = 60 pound with another 30 pound charge which equals a total of 90 pounds!! AHHHH!!:mad:0 -
I think you will not get the £30 but that can be argued via the normal claiming process. You need to argue that you budgetted for the charges you were told you were getting and that since the charges were higher that it has caused further charges which you feel were caused by the banks misinforming you. That is how I would probably deal with it from that angle.0

Thanks, you've been great with the advice.
So should i argue this all by letter? It's just, on Friday im near the bank of where the employee with the incorrect info works at and im so tempted to sort it then!? or do you think i should stop myself from doing that? Im just so unhappy with whats happened and want it sorted and hopefully they will see they have an unhappy customer and want to make me happy again!!
If its letter who am i writing to? And if i have to take it further up the ladder who then? Is is an dis-advantage i dont know the employees name? Like i said if i walked into lloyds now i would recognise him straight away.
Im thinkin of leaving Lloyds TSB when my overdraft is payed off altogether. Should i mention this when writing/speaking to them?0 -

By all means hand the letter in but remember, I know how I would feel about that employee. The last thing you want to do is get into a row with the member of staff as it solves nothing. Mark the letter "private and confidential" For the attention of the branch manager(would be better if you had their name of course).
If the branch say NO then you go to Customer Relations at LloydsTSB.
Remember, when someone shouts at you or has a go at you, the natural defences go up and you stick straight on terms and conditions, blah blah blah.
I wouldn't mention that you are leaving them but that you are extremely disappointed in the way that they treated you in giving you such poor information when normally they are so good(or words to that effect).0 -
What if the person that gave me the wrong info IS the branch manager haha? I dont know if he is or not, but if he is, will he just read it and then dismiss it? or not even read it?
I was thinking going into another branch near my work and asking them about what to do, telling them situation, telling them calmly obviously! If i asked them for the branch managers name of the branch that has done me, would they give it me??
Thanks for all your help, been really good advice!0 -

If they knew it, yes. Approach it in a calm manner and I am sure some resolution will occur.0
