hi all,
I have a acer laptop with the 3 mobile broadband, i got this as part of a package with 3, i am going to my parents at the weekend and they have virgin media will this laptop work straight through there internet coneection or do i have to use my mobile dongle?? i am nearly up to my 15gb allowance and thought this will save me topping up, the only thing i am worried about is have 3 modified the acer at all to prevent other networks broadband working on it.

If they have a wireless router, you will be able to connect to it through normal wifi.
Mobile broadband sticks work on a different principle to wireless, and you are not tied into only using that stick. Don't worry, the 3 stick will not prevent you using a T-mobile, Vodafone or whoever mobile broadband stick....and certainly not by connecting via wireless or wired connections.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

so will the laptop just be normal then, someone told me that they modify them like network providers do for mobiles, thanks for your help0

It's only the sticks themselves that are locked (i.e. if you put a T-mobile SIM in the 3 stick, it wouldn't work). But I imagine if not illegal, it'd be very immoral to restrict your laptop to only using that one!
