Ombudsman rejected PPI Claim - what now??

My husband and I took a loan with First Plus through a broker which we settled early by repaying in Dec 05. At the time both FP and the broker said we couldn't have our PPI back because we'd made an early settlement. We tried following it up with both companies and were passed from pillar to post by each one saying it wasn't their responsibility and we should have read the small print.
Feeling like complete idiots we thought we had no leg to stand on until Oct 2007 when we took Martin's template letter ideas forward and when these were rejected we contacted the FOS. They have been looking into the case ever since then, and the adjudicator sent us a lengthy copy of a report which detailed all the areas that led him to believe that the policy had been mis-sold and our claim was recommended to be upheld. It was passed on for a final decision in April and we received a letter yesterday from the adjudicator to say effectively that we complained too late and there isn't anything they can do. Is there anything that can now be done???
ANY advice would be much appreciated!!!! Please help!

Hi there
sorry to hear this.
So did you complain to the FOS after the 6 months after first complaining to FP?
The time limit is that of 6 months, but if you had good reason why you did not deal with it in that time, maybe for personal reasons, let the FOS know, they may then reconsider taking this back on.
If you kept within the time limit, and its not your fault, let them know, I know mistakes like this have happned, but get back to them for ASAP to let them know this.
Hopefully someone will come along to give you some advice on this matter, I wish you luck and please keep us posted.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
HI sent you a private message about a helpful site, while there may be time limits for the regulators, you'll find under common law you can still persue your claim.0
