So you can request. Thanks kittie - I'll try the phone rather than online and see what happens.

I did an online quote first and also one from saga. They wanted to beat saga so rias gave me a cheaper quote and that happens to have fortis underwriting

If you do an online quote they will phone you, so have another cheaper quote handy as well

    Kittie,

Thanks again for your reply. Your strategy seems good to me.
  • Hi,

have a look at Tesco, they do a Value/Standard/Finest, and I see they are giving a free Karcher pressure washer just now for Standard/Finest buildings and contents, when I signed up about six months ago, I got a £50 refund.
You can get a quote online, and 35% discount.
Don't know what they are like when it comes to a claim though, hope I never need to find out.

frugalmacd that is the point. We are at the tail end of 2 years with barclays and had a ch pipe `pop` under the floor above the kitchen. They were 200% hopeless in helping us to get it sorted. Never ever again will we go for run of the mill insurers. My sister is undergoing a claim with rias re leaking water tank and its consequences and rias is absolutely fantastic. Price doesn`t mean much when you need a good insurer and as for rias, being competative is a bonus

It's this sort of attitude which really grates with me. It's moronic. Maybe you should try to find out what their claims service is like?

    And Kittie, FORTIS OWN RIAS.

    Good grief.

wow, sorry if I've upset you, I was only meaning I hope I never have to make a claim.

I've had house insurance for about 35 years and only once made a claim, and that was in the early years.

Hope your day gets better. :rotfl:

Quote, that’s a bit OTT, if you don’t mind me saying, Moronic because frugal makes a suggestion but has no idea of claim settling?

Most people have no idea of claim settling before or during their policy, anyone feel free to correct me but I understand actual “claim” rates are approx at 10%.

This would therefore suggest that 90% of policy holders don’t claim and would therefore have no idea of IC’s claims service.
    This is IMO of course.

    Kittie,
If you're still reading this thread and are considering buildings cover with RIAS, you may be interested in this para from the T&Cs:

    b) Your insurer does not cover you for any kind of consequential loss – that is
any loss, which happens as a result of, or is a side effect of, the main thing
for which you are insured. For example, if you had a burst pipe, your insurer
would pay for the damage caused, but would not be responsible for tracing
    the cause.

Sigh... back to the drawing board.
