BT are just about to pay off 15,000 people. How do you think they feel? A lot worse than your relative I'm sure. BT is a business and as such they are only interested in profit or they'll have no business. They will fiddle with things like customer serivce, nice adverts and new colours on their vans etc but their only concern is for their shareholders.

It's not easy sticking your nose in relatives' affairs but if you think you have to do it then do it with them with some sort of boxed file which they control and you can ask them to keep all letters etc in one place and then you can check when you visit etc. There's no law that say you have to help anyone it's down to whatever you're comfortable with. Like I said stop the annoying and bad stuff happening in the first place by making sure no new service is supplied.

Signs on doors, warnings and a CCTV (working or not) will put most scumbags preying on the 'old'. These people aren't doing anything illegal necessarily, just making a living like all of us and it's easier to get someone whose not entirely up to scratch to sign something in person (gas, electric, phone) or digitally (subscription (CPA -see below), phone, holiday, 'free' mobile phone etc).

I just sorted a CPA (continuous payment authority) for an 89 year old relative on their credit card. I've banged on for years to them to NEVER give out their info but they do again and again. I think this time they've learned because it almost cost them £400 were it not for me chasing it. I only THINK they've learned their lesson though. I have been very VERY clear that if they give their info out again I'll wash my hands of similar problems and they'll lose the credit card. A small line for them to work to. If they don't like it get another relative with time to burn and more energy than me.

!!!!!! has BT laying off staff got to do with any of this?

    1. My point was as much about people ON HERE sitting in judgement on people posting.

    2. Wow after your relative having a problem you've warned them if it happens again you'll wash your hands of it. Now THAT'S looking after your relatives isn't it

    3. Did I say anyone was doing anything illegal?

    4. You are missing the point a lof of older people dont want their relatives interferring for various reasons from embarassment or from just not realising there is anything amiss.

    5. After the conversation with the Chairmans office on a SUNDAY and this morning I can assure BT are NOT just interested in profits they are interested in running an efficient profitable company, how long do you think the CEO would last if it turned out BT were spanking thousands of OAPs in a similar manner to this?? Not bloody long I can assure you of that.

A little less judgemental attitude and a little more helpful comments next time
