No replacement should other model be offered?

Hi, I bought a projector back in March 09 and after about one months use it developed a fault which turned out to be dust inside the unit. I contacted the retailer I purchased it from and they gave me the manufacturers contact details to arrange repair. I contacted the manufacturer and they collected the unit the next day. I recieved the unit back exactly two weeks later and when I tried the unit a few days after recieving it back it wouldn't power up. I checked the manual and it had developed another fault. I contacted the manufacturer again the next day and they again collected the unit. It has now been around 4 weeks and I still haven't had the unit returned. When I contacted the service department they said they were waiting for a part yet couldn't give me a timescale. They said they would offer me a replacement but don't have that particular model in stock. I complained about the unit being in their repair shop for more time than I have had the unit in my posession and that I had lost 3 months of warranty so far and they offered to restart the warranty from when I get the unit back but they are still unable to give me a time for the return of the unit as the part is still not in stock. Are they not obliged to offer me a equivilent model if they are unable to replace my unit?

You could probably get a refund, in fact. They can't repair it within a reasonable timescale, and can't give you a replacement.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

You should have really just been given a replacement as far as i know its the responsibility of the seller not the maufacturer probably someone else who is better infromed me cant confirm that.

Regardless its now gone past reasonable time limit to repair and therefore you are entitled to a replacement or refund, i would take it up with the seller about replacing or refunding not the manfacturer.
