If you want 100% safety, you need to save as cash (not investments, that offer the potential for higher returns but risk your money). Remember, only the first £50k per person per financial institution is completely protected, so it is a good idea to spread your money between a number of financial institutions if you exceed this amount

Assuming you want to put the money away for a while
For cash savings, I would suggest that you fill up your £3600 cash ISA first in the top paying account. Generally, a fixed rate, or regular ISA will offer the best returns but will lock your cash away for a bit

After this put the maximum allowed rate into the best regular savers accounts (that you pay tax on the interest)

After this, put the cash in the top paying instant access account.
Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved

Try halifax-international - check their t+c's for onshore savers. Regular saver up to 2k/month. 4% currently.

Thanks - yes I will find a good ISA and then probably gor for a fixed rate for a year . As far as regular saving - that seems to be the best regular saver ive seen - Can you invest as a UK resident though?
