Hi there
I am a lone parent and trying to retrain as a bookkeeper. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get help to pay for the course. My local jobcentre have turned me down. Apparently I have to try to find funding from somewhere else before they can help!!!!!

Have you contacted you college's Student Services about this? If you are on means tested benefits/low income, or if this is your first course at this level, you may well be exempt from paying fees.
What level is the course and is it full or part time?0 -
The course I have been looking into is actually done online at home and only have to go to college to do the final exams to become qualified. This is a lot easier as the nearest college that does the course I want to do is 50 miles away and the public transport in my area is practically non-existent in getting me there as I have no transport of my own at the moment. Plus I have 2 children and would need someone to be at my home for 6am to get them ready for school in the mornings if I took the only bus that would get me to the college in time for classes0

The only funding you'll be likely to be eligible for is a Career Development Loan but this will depend on the costs involved. This is far more like a personal loan than the Student Loan, so be very careful about taking one of these on.0
