seat ibiza or vw polo hatchback?!

hello

my partner is buying a new car and it is between a seat ibiza and a vw polo hatchback

we are a family of 3 but pick up 2 people every weekend

the polo has done 1/3 less miles than the ibza and has a nice interior top standard but a bit dad like while the ibiza is is smaller and younger looking

the ibiza is 400 pounds cheaper but will be doing 60 miles plus a day

theyre both the same price same engine size so we dont know what to do

any idea which we should go for

our friends are split

Or Skoda Fabia - Skoda tend to come higher in league tables. The Fabia is based on the previous VW Polo/Seat Ibiza platforms (rather than the ones currently sold) but is probably slightly bigger, and uses the same engines etc.
  • if i was to follow my heart it would be the grandad car but my partner is the one driving it at the moment he is driving his mother civic and its a ugly car but i'm now use to the size of it and dont want to go from a large comfy car back to a small car i am meant to ring the garage up but dont know what to ask.

I have to say I had a Seat Ibiza on a 52 plate from new and couldn't wait to get rid, nothing but hassle with it - mind you if the dealer I had bought from had been a bit more helpful I might have liked the car a little more.

Great looking car for the money, but I had various problems like electric passenger window dropping inside the door, when looked under bonnet it appeared the car was incorrectly wired and had to be off the road as too dangerous to drive,

Had the dealers top mechanic work on car under warranty, drove 10 miles and the mechanic had not tightened everything up and caused some engine damage, ended up having car towed to Seat and never taking the car back - might have just been unlucky car - who knows.

Afterall they are supposed to be part of Audi and lots of good said about them, guess you just need to drive them both and decide which one suits your needs.

one thing if your buying a 3 door Seat then check the handles that flip the seats forward, mine kept falling off ... mind you that could be my ham fisted son :-)

As per advice from anewman, go for a Fabia.

We've had all 3, & the Fabias the best without doubt.

Ibiza is cheap & nasty (especially plastic) with lack of headroom & bootspace.

Polo is fine, but you'll get a better Fabi for the money

I' m with mvteng and anewman on this one! if nothing else drive a fabia and see what YOU think. Yes there is still some badge snobbery but mainly from people who don't really know!

You should get more on the VW (depending on condition!) when it comes to trading in or private sale time, depending on how long you are keeping it, it could be worth thinking about this?
  • not the vw
  • hello

reading back on what i wrote i said he was getting a new car its not brand new but a new car to us :) they are both 52 plates sorry if i confused anyone.

we went and looked at the seat yesterday as my partner really liked it and the one we were going to look at had a engine fault and doesn't work so he said that we could have the 03 seat ibiza that was 3500 for 3000 but it is advised that the cam belt needs changing after 60,000 miles and that would cost another 100 pounds.

i believe in fate and our son didn't like it at all

we then went and looked at the polo which my son really likes and my partner liked it more when he saw it again so hopefully he will go for the polo :D
