Amazon claim my delivery was received by the 'red bin'

I'm sure there is another post similar to what I am going to say, although I can't find it. Please feel free to merge me to it if there's a better place.
Basically, I ordered 4 books, 1 camera and a CD in 3 separate transactions from Amazon.
Their courier of the 4 books delivered them 'to the red bin', it was there for a maximum of 11 hours, during which time it was stolen (my bin faces the path, which is on a reasonably main road).
I emailed to complain and ask for the books to be redelivered, this time to my work addres, where someone could collect them.
Their first response was they would 'investigate' and their response this evening was this;
Dear Customer,
Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.
Following our recent enquiry regarding your order #__________, HDNL informed us that the carrier has left the item "red bin" and delivered your order.
It is very important to us that you receive your order. If you should find there is no further information regarding your package, we ask that you respond to this e-mail using the link provided below. Please also confirm that the delivery address (as it appeared on your original order form) is correct, or if any changes need to be made to it.
Please visit the following link to provide the information we requested:

We look forward to resolving your query and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you for choosing Amazon.co.uk.
Warmest regards
Not only is this poorly written (I've highlighted the confusingly written part), but it also suggests that I've received it- which I haven't!
I emailed this evening to confirm my address and ask again for the redelivery to my work address, although here do I stand with getting the books replaced? I'm particularly fuming, as the xbox guitar hero my boyfriend ordered was left proped up against our front door- I arrived home to see it sat there in full view of everyone passing by!
How can I stop the courier from leaving it in the bin? I don't want to put a sign up to advertise that we are out.
any ideas on chasing Amazon and convincing the courier not to deliver to our bin would be very very welcome
(or from just leaving it infront of our door).

I'd say that technically the goods haven't been delivered, its for Amazon and the courier to resolve.
Online retailers occasionally ask where goods could be left in the event that you're not in, e.g. with a neighbour, in the shed etc... If the courier has simply left it in an inappropriate, insufficiently secure area, not your problem.
Amazon have always been extremely reasonable in my experience, I'm confident they would replace the books and would be open to delivery suggestions which were particularly in their interest, i.e. secure. They can actually be contacted by telephone if you dig or google hard enough!0 -
Glad you think it was a stupid place to leave it too! I am begining to think actually Mr Red Bin is a perfectly acceptable recipient!
They claim the books only were left in there, as I received the CD rammed through the post box this morning. The xbox guitar thingy was shocking but at least it was there... the camera I expect to be signed for and I expect it to be signed for by me/my OH.
I bought them all under different order numbers over a couple of days (odd I know), therefore they are all being delivered separately. I expected to just get loads of those cards and collect them all on Saturday.
I shall keep on at Amazon tomorrow - their phoneline has been helpfull in the past.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I had a similar thing where they put it in the bin, and then the bin men came!!
Amazon are never very helpful in their dispute process, I certainly haven't had a good experience with them. You just have to keep pushing for a redelivery or refund, in the end I stated that I would get trading standards involved and that sped them up no end!
Good luck!:T If you don't have anything sensible to say, don't say it! :T0 -
I'll let you know what they say tomorrow. Should I EXPECT a refund/redelivery or am I just hoping for one? Also, what would be a reasonable timescale?
sandford6016, we received a voucher for amazon which wouldn't work, we rang their service line and they gave us a new code- problem sortedI'm hoping for the same service, once I speak to a human.

you should both expect and demand them
the contract was never fulfilled as you never received the goods
the delivery mans/womans rather odd train of thought meant they are responsible for itBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
cool cool.
I will chase them for a resolution tomorrow
I'm still concerned at how I can stop the camera being delivered to Mr Red Bin too- any ideas?
At present, our plan is to stick a generic sign on the door saying;
'if you knock and we don't answer, please do not leave in a safe place, please arrange redelivery'.
- does this sound about right for a courier and for discouraging burglars? If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

ironically there is a box for 'no safe place' on their card, their courier had a serious lapse in judgement! If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

Would do no harm - in a sense it is no different to a no junk mail / cold caller sign. The beauty is that it doesn't highlight your absence from the house.0
