My student daughter has eventually after 6 months of being without her internet connection had BT admit it was their fault. They had connected the wrong line in her flat ( she has two ). She can claim for the line rental & her internet provider fees. Does anyone know if she is also entitled to compensation at a dailly rate for non-provision of the service. We claimed this some 9/10 years ago when our line was not connected on the appropriate date agreed when we moved to our new house.I could not find anything on BT site. She has spent a great deal of time of sorting this out & I feel she should be entitled to payment for her inconvenience.

Hi,
In my dealings with BT I found mention of recourse to OFTEL was very useful.

BT have done some really stupid things to me like when I moved disconnected the old premises and then reconnected it leaving the new premises without any connection for over a week. Every time there is a fault with DSL they blame my equipment which to date has not been the cause of any of the issues. Even last week I was without broadband for 5 days while BT Wholesale and BT Openreach had to argue which one of them were going to pay for the work inside their own exchange because a line card had failed!
When you do try and claim compensation the form filling is so time consuming and the compensation amounts so small it's hardly worth the trouble. IMHO0 -
As an update to this my daughter only got a refund of her internet fees not her line rental even though she was without internet access for over 6 months. Not a penny in compensation for her inconvenience. Very poor BT.0

I have had compensation at the daily rate for non-provision of service, as well as compensation for billing me on an address which was not cancelled, at around £40-45 each.. I got these with no problem really (relatively). no luck myself with internet fees/cost of having to use my mobile constantly in my case, but did get £164.50 "goodwill" ontop of the compensation. (this took alot more work)0
