Hi,

I've had an Epson R200 for quite a few years, great printer

however, now every time I go to print something new
I'm getting a message "service required" then below it states
"Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation."

doesn't tell me what parts or nothing like that, I've cleaned the heads/nozzles etc

can any one shed any light on this
is there anyway around this, apart from the obvious and buy a new printer

thanks in advance

I think you need to reset the printer.

    Download this http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

If you are still unsure do a google "Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation."

Possibly the pads that soak up the spilt ink are saturated, or the sensor thinks they are. Not sure if you can reset to get round this. I don't know of many Epsons that will last more than a couple of years before this happens, if it's lasted more than 2 years it's done you well.
I would always recommend Canon then HP if you want an inkjet to last longer than this.

Epson printers have very large ink wastage pads in the bottom of the printer to absorb ink from every head clean/ cartridge change.

This service error comes up after a predertmined number of the above cycles and is not triggered by a sensor.

Clearing the error wth the program will allow you to continue using our printer but be warned the pads inside are virtually full and will start to leak out eventually. A qualified epson serice centre will replace these pads but it is not cheep.

You may be able to find replacement pads yourself on auction sites, but from what I have been told they are extremely difficult to replace yourself as the printer has to be completely stripped apart to access them.

Another alternative is a DIY collection tanks that can be fitted to the watse pipe inside your printer search "waste ink kit" for your printer on ebay.

It does involve opening part of your printer, and if not done correctly may leak ink.

All the best, what ever you choose to do.

I have an r200..had it about 5 years...I have had to use the ssc tool to reset it a couple of times...I also wad up kitchen roll and soak up the excess ink from the pads either side :p

Only issue I have with the printer is Vista/7 x64 support is lacking...the cd printing utility doesn't work 'out of the box'..but can easily be convinced! :D

    Thanks for the tips/advice

for the record I'm pretty sure that I've had the printer for 3-5 years
and I'm quite found of it, hence I'm keen to try and fix it
as quick and cheap as possible

    will try the scc download

    fingers crossed
