British Gas Boiler Quote 3k
We have just had a quote from British gas for a boiler replacement, thermostat and timer controls for £3225.
All they are doing is replacing our current boiler, putting in a thermostat as we don't have one and connecting up controls for the heating and hot water to run seperately. Also our flue needs moving up slightly so they are filling in hole already there and putting a little upward pipe in its place to take it higher up the house. So just upgrading the system we have - our tank in airing cupboard is fairly new 2/3 yrs max.
Is this a fair price - we are confused as two years ago we had a quote for the same price but they were going to fit a combi boiler and re do the whole system - moving the boiler from kitchin into loft, instant hot water etc

Good evening: Get another quote from an independent RGI and compare like for like. You haven't given any detail of BG's specification eg. make and model boiler, powerflush included etc or your location in the UK/size of property: this info would help those' in the know' to give a bit of advice based on the facts. Post your quote here and take a look through the threads to get an idea of what others have paid;)

just got a quote from a local plumber. new boiler ( 5 year warrenty ) with 8 new rads and all new pipework. all old stuff removed £2700.0

dont let bg do the work - why anyone does is beyond me, they are a rip off.
i reckon you will get the work done for under 2 grand easily, as bg tend to fit the worcester 30si, or baxi platinum. (both good boilers)
i had the worcester 30 si fitted in january this year and its a great boiler. i also had an mt10rf wireless programmer / stat, a magnaclean filter, 7 x trv's, old flu bricked up and new one fitted, powerflush and inhibitor - all for £1850
they also removed the old tanks from loft and airing cupboard seen as i opted for a combi.
my gas bills have really reduced too by having this boiler - 2 adults and last week we used 6 units of gas costing £2.40p0 -
Look at your quote, and separate the cost of the boiler from the rest
Our quote is ~£3500 including £2444 (ex VAT) for the boiler
Going to the boiler manufacturer's (Potterton) website, I find that I can buy the boiler from them for £537 ex VAT
So I will be asking BG tomorrow how much they charge to fit a boiler that I supply0 -
I am sorry to say that British Gas are the biggest rip-off merchants in the country. £3,000+ is typical for a replacement bolier from them.
Look around for a local CORGI gas installer (check with CORGI to see they are registered). I am sure you can get the same installation for less than half the price.
Another alternative (if you qualify) is the WARMFRONT scheme. You could get a new gas boiler, roof and wall insulation for free!

Good morning: CORGI no longer has the register for RGIs...this is now the remit of Gas Safe Register....the changeover was 1 April 2009.

as you couple of months ago. I got quote from BG first, replacement boiler, flu, controls, powerflush came in at over £3500. I then got several other quotes from plumbers, didn't go for the cheapest, went for the one with the most recommendations from friends, had exactly the same work done but with a better boiler (Worcester 18 as opposed to the lower level Worcster one BG were offering) plus I had my downstairs loo refitted with new loo and basin, plus some tiling and the whole thing came in at almost £2000 cheaper than BG wanted just for the central heating refit. They also tried to sell me stuff I didn't need, some sort of thing to be fitted that you only need if you live in a hard water area and we don't. They're now playing their face on refunding me the money for the service contract. Robbing dogs!0
