Planning Permission Required?

Hi All,
I have just successfully applied for planning permission to add a new double storey extension to the side of our house for a new downstairs kitchen and toilet plus extending the upstairs bathroom and master bedroom to include an en-suite.
However, i would also like to slightly alter our garage which is at the back of our property so it has a side door, as the side of the garage backs onto our garden. It would be much more convenient accessing the garage that way rather than having to go through the gate, out onto the drive and in through the garage door. So my question is do i need to apply for planning permission or could i just make this alteration without having to contact the council? Thanks

i wouldnt of thought that would need planning permission, you are not extending or changing the use of the garage.
But for the price of the phone call I would call the planning office and check. You dont have to give name or address etc... just ask if you need planning permission.
The only reason i could see you needing PP is if you are in a listed building or a conservation area.0 -
I best give them a ring then, it is a conservation area i believe. Thanks0

Hi divadee,
I gave them a ring and i am in a conservasion area but apparently that isnt important (although this will change in 2 months time, new legisalation). However, due to the location of the door (on the site of the garage but opens onto my land) i dont need any planning permission.
Thanks for the advice, should really have thought to ring them myself!0
