Am I being too tight here guys?
Well originally local VW dealers refused to offer anything off list price other than scrappage. Ive gone to a broker who was at first £1300 less than the dealers, this has been eroded due to the then extra scrappage input by VW.
I havent signed order for broker yet and Ive tried ringing all the local VW dealers asking if they can match the price but the best Ive come up with is £550 more.
Now am I being too tight here? Is £550 savings worth the possible hassle of long distance buying? Or is it better to buy long distance because you have the Distance Selling Regs to back you up?
I just dont want this to go pear shape if the car turns up with scratches or whatever and the dealer is over 100 miles away BUT £550 is £550.

Did you decide on a Polo in the end? Have you tried more than one broker - drive the deal, dealdrivers, carfile etc - to compare prices?
If so, and none of them can get close, I'd take it - £550 is a lot of money at the end of the day.
I assume the broker you are using will put you in touch with a VW dealer and you pay your money to the dealer? That dealer will have a reputation to uphold, so can't believe they would sell a duff car to you.
Good luck!0 -
Yes Jonathan, its a good broker and the money goes direct to the VW dealer - it all seems kosher, its just the distance factor thats a bit of a concern and putting right any problems when its delivered. Though reading the DSR, you do in fact have the right to reject the car for 7 days after delivery.
But £550 isnt to be sniffed at is it.
We went for a Golf in the end - more room for the dogs.0 -
I think I would definitely go for it. Presumably, if you're trading a car in, you'll have to collect it, which will give you the opportunity to inspect it properly before you take it home.
My wife travelled 100+ miles to buy her Beetle Convertible from a VW dealer, and it was in brand new condition when we got there, despite being used.
I can understand now why you are struggling to get discount from local dealers - a friend of mine has ordered a Golf, and delivery is being quoted as October / November. Is yours in stock, or do you have to wait? If the latter, will they guarantee you can use the scrappage scheme given that it is first come, first served?0 -
No, they are delivering to us. Its a Plus, not such a long waiting time as the Golf. They have already given us an order number with VW system.
Its September 1 for us, so we get the new plate0
