Heres the artical Chris is talking about from the TTG.
Think of China and you picture the Great Wall, the terracotta warriors and the Forbidden City.
But Airtours is hoping to tap into a different side to one of the world’s fastest-growing destinations as it markets China as the latest beach destination.
With the price of a two-week holiday next year starting at £1,239 – on a par with the Caribbean – the People’s Republic will be more affordable for the mass market.
Airtours managing director Steve Barrass said agents he had spoken to were “delighted” by the news.
He revealed the new destination to regional managers in a Chinese restaurant in Manchester, and training will be given to Going Places agents first, then to third-party agencies.
Brochures will be in the shops from Thursday for the programme, which starts in May 2007. Fam trips could take place as early as this autumn.
Barrass said Airtours decided to focus on the destination because feedback from customers and agents had shown China to be in the top three of people’s wish lists.
He would not reveal what the other two were, because they could be next on Airtours’ list of new destinations. He would only say: “Look east, rather than west.”
Airtours will fly from Gatwick and Manchester from May 2007 to the resort of Sanya on the tropical island of Hainan, known as the “Hawaii of the Orient”.
Included in the basic package is a two-night break to Beijing.
The flights, on a MyTravel Boeing 767, will take 15 hours with a stopover in Bahrain.
Sanya is popular in winter with domestic Chinese holidaymakers and has hosted the Miss World finals for three years. If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
