Microsoft Office or Word for free? Help

Hi there,

I have recently lost my job, and used work computer (as I did for 20 years). My computer at home only has word pad. I have downloaded something to be able to 'read' word documents, but nothing to be able to edit or create documents in Word.

Is there anything I can download for free from the internet please?

Looked on Microsoft site and its all upgrades and things and now im totally confused.

Can anyone help me please?
Regards

Nothing really to add other than more advice to get OpenOffice, they are fantastic software, open source (therefore free entirely) and are just as good (though better imo) to the microsoft office package.

Yes, just use the File>Save As function and select the version of Word into which you wish to save the file.
