Better than Poundland???

The 99p store usually has better bargains more often, whereas Poundland generally seems to have the same stock which most places have for a similar price. In the 99p shop you can pick up full boxes of crisps or sweets.
There used to be a 50p shop here in liverpool city centre, anyone remember it? it shut down a while back but was fantastic!0 -
There used to be a Poundland in Manchester Arndale and a shop called Poundworld in Piccadilly Gardens but they've both closed down so now there is only PoundEmpire. PoundEmpire is really good though.
I've never seen a 99p shop. Doesn't having to deal with change make the queues move slower and push up their operating costs?0 -
I like their advertising slogan -"Everything is 99p - not one penny more".
Also I remember the MD of this chain on R4's Today program a couple of years ago when it was suggested that the 1p coin be scrapped. He reckoned that they would lose a shed load of money if it was.0 -
There did used to be a 50p shop in Liverpool........just up from the 99p store and Poundland...“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

We have a 99p store opened in Romford and they are ace. They sell a perfume in there which smells EXACTLY like Opium (old classic perfume) which retails for over £40 a bottle!!Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

Oh I remember it well. Morgans 50p shop in Bold St. Sadly missed.
Got the 99p and Poundland like you say. That's inflation for you!!!!!!:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -
How about an 87p store, one in ROchdale. Cant say much for the stock though. However there is one independant £1 shop just up the road which is absolutely brill. It makes poundland pale in comparison.
In Oldham there used to be two other cheap shops like it but they have sadly closed. Wouldnt be surprised if it was the rates - the local council seem to do everything possible to dissuade people from coming to shop here. They used to have a good open Market - ruined. Parking attendants roam the streets relentlessly.
The only good thing is that Primark are setting up shop in the closed down Littlewoods. It took iceland with it - shame.Veteran Bargain Hunter -
Best ever bargain: Rugby shirts (seconds) @ 20p0
