We have a 99p stores and a Poundland in our local shopping centre, and I think that the 99pstores offer a much better deal they tend to be bigger than most poundlands and a bit more organised. There are at least 46 around now.
Does anyone else use them?

on the whole i find their prices are 1% cheaper0 -
I find them better than the £1 shops they seem to stock a better range of stock.
Also they seem to have they stock for longer which means you can go back again for it..
Look out for boxes of bic pens normally 12 in a box they're very good.
And yes they're 1% cheaper

Quite amusing on Hounslow High Street, where there is already a Poundland and a 99p Store, someone has opened a '98p Store' and there's a new '90p store' further up the road.0

I have a 99p store local to me, but have noticed a couple of items to be cheaper in wilkos0

We have one in Barnsley. It's brill!
All the staff seem to be from Eastern Europe (Poland, FRY?). They are very polite and amenable - some staff in other, more established stores would do well to take notice of the example.
Is it me, or are shop staff getting worse these days? When I was in training, the rudeness, general ignorance and generally bad manners certainly weren't tolerated or acceptable.0 -
They're mostly Eastern Europeans or Poles here too, and yes I'd agree wuth you about them being polite and it makes such a differenceWeight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j0

Thanks for the reply. That's interesting. I wonder if the company is owned in Eastern Europe?0

two problems with this genre of stores are
1. as someone posts as everything is the same price you can often buy some products cheaper elsewhere ( ie it's not always a bargain )
2. they have to stop selling some products because the manufacturers can't absorb the cost of inflation and neither can the store ....the product becomes uneconomical at a quid.
maybe we'll have £1.10 stores soon0 -
I sent an e-mail to Poundland asking them if inflation (or a weakening of the pound) would eventually force them to change their business model. I got a polite reply back saying that it would stay at 1 pound for the forseeable future :-)
In reality - it will have to change. Personally, I would like to see things that cost more than a pound - but which are bargains.0 -
