vango extension

I have recently bought a new tent the model is a vango tigris 800. At the same time we bought an extension. So far we have had 2 weekend away in the tent. Which I cant sing its praises enough and would recommend this model to others. The tent and extension are really easy to erect however the trying to fit the extension is a total nightmare.

The first time we took the tent out we struggled to fit it then but we put it down to it being a new tent to us and next time we put it up it wouild be better. How wrong we were. We have just come back from a weekend away with my OH brother who is also an experienced camper and all weekend they both fiddled about with it wi9th help from other campers and it is quite clear that this extension does not fit this tent.

So far I have emailed Vango who insist that it is the correct extension for the Tigris 800 and I have sent them pictures.

I havent as yet contacted the shop that I bought it from as I would like a refund as I dont feel that it is fit for purpose on this particular tent, but Im not sure of my rights.

What do you think?

The tent and the extension should be taut. However
When it sits on the tent it drags the main tent down. If you pitch it so that the elastic bit which drags the tent down sits on the front pole it leaves two quite large gaping holes at either side which then lets the rain in.

We really have tried all sorts with the extension to pitch it in different ways and moved the guy ropes in all ways but to no avail

well i think i can see those holes
so yes you do have rights to a full refund under the sale of goods act as it is not "fit for purpse"

go to the retailer though as your contract is with them

if they dont refund then tell them you will be sending them a letter stating your intention to contact trading standards and begon small claims court proceedings

if they dont then do exactly that, writh when and what u bought

    why it doesnt fit

that under s14 of soga it is "not fit for purpose" and that your statutory rights allow you to a full refund

that they have 14 days to reply ad if they dont reply or resolve the issue you will contact trading standards and issue them with a small claims court action.

We put it on the other doors as well but it doesnt fit them either as it doesnt have enough fabric to pull over the tent and the guy ropes are also to short to enable it to be pitched in that way.

I have been on a camping forum and it would appear that I am not the only one with this kind of problem with the extension. I have seen the extension on a different shape tent to mine and it fits perfectly.

AFAIK Vango stopped doing "custom" extensions for each individual tent design and instead just provide a "universal" extension. I think previously they did make individual extensions... only stopped this year maybe?

I would guess you've got a universal extension, hence why it doesn't fit your tent great but fits others. If the shop didn't make it clear that this wasn't specifically designed for your tent then I reckon they have mis-sold it to you and you should take it up with them.

It's pretty poor that Vango are supplying a "universal" extension that clearly isn't very universal!
