Patio Door - Refused repairs under gaurentee

Hi everyone.
Purchased a sliding patio door from a Sole trader in 2004 paid £1000, which included a full 10 year gaurentee ( also insurance backed )
The door has now developed problems and doesnt close. Sole trader came out and had a look, and told me that the runners were broken.
Tells me that it will cost him money to repair, and says that he not doing the repair due to a clause in the gaurentee saying fair wear and tear.
We dont use the door much, but how do i prove this, and can i get this done under warranty.
I have put this into writing to him in the first instance, and have heard nothing since he came to look and refused the work.
Can I do anything about this ?
Thanks for any advice which can be given.

What does the 10 year warranty say? Does it cover the entire door? I presume they fitted the runners too?
Given the runners are part of the main mechanism (otherwise it wouldn't be a sliding door!), they ought to be covered it the guarantee.
If you don't get a satisfactory result, write again, send it recorded delivery, and threaten them with the small claims court unless they honour their waranty.
Give them 14 days to reply.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'd turn round and tell him I expect the doors to last more than 5 years!Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0
