peugeot 306 can be put into reverse whilst driving

Hiya I've just bought a geat peugeot 306 diesel estate but it has one fault, it can be put into reverse in error whilst driving. Surely there should be something tio stop this and if so is it easy to fix?

Also the gear change is very clunky is this common too?

Boxes are very clunky on Pugs. Even to this day they stil are.

Yes you can, if a bit kack-handed put them into reverse on the move as they are a simple 3up 3 down box with no little nubbin to lift past for reverse like most other boxes...
