Using a Switch with a Router

Due to having to send my W/less Router back under warranty I am back to using the "free" Talk Talk modem, which comes with one lan port. I know I cannot hand w/less but if I connect a switch into that port should I get more than one connection. Alternatively if I connect one pc via the usb connection can I connect another via the lan port?
Thanks DG

You should be able to use the cable from the talk talk router to the switch then use the switch as the connecting point to your PC's. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.0

I have used a switch with a router- 1 Ethernet output to the switch then 7 ports of to PCs (8 port switch). The problems I encountered was that the device only gave out 1 ip address, so had to make the ip's on the PC static and also put the dns in them too. I do not think I managed to forward ports either
You may be luckier (and less lazy
), as I did not put that much effort into it. 0 -
I had tried it and it hadn't been successful, but tried a different lan cable from router/modem to switch and voila, It seems to be working need to test out printer via network connection though.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Even with only one ethernet port your device should be able to dish out more than 1 IP address. It's probably the DHCP scope on the router that is incorrectly set. You can increase the scope on the router and this will free up more addresses to be dynamically assigned. Static will obviously work too so it depends if you can be bothered with the hassle though
