  • for those of you who look at the bigger picture I would not buy anything made by nestle. I prefer to buy chocolate from a more ethical company.

"The International Nestlé Boycott is in effect in 20 countries. The boycott will continue until Nestlé ends its irresponsible marketing of breastmilk substitutes world-wide and abides by the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and subsequent Resolutions in policy and practice. The Boycott is supported in the UK by over 100 church, health and consumer groups, over 90 businesses, 80 student unions, 17 local authorities, 12 trade unions, 74 politicians and political parties and many celebrities. "

"Marketing practices that undermine breastfeeding are potentially hazardous wherever they are pursued: in the developing world, WHO estimates that some 1.5 million children die each year because they are not adequately breastfed. These facts are not in dispute."

    "The Nestlé Boycott
Nestlé is the target of a boycott in 20 countries because of its unethical and irresponsible marketing of breastmilk substitutes. The Nestlé boycott is the most popular consumer boycott in the UK 1 Nestlé controls about 40% of the worldwide baby milk market. It is singled out for boycott action because it is the largest single source of violations of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent, relevant World Health Assembly Resolutions 2.

  • nice one saraseashourse, i was just wondering when someone was going to mention the boycott.

i bet fifteen milkybars ate in quick succession would make you a bit sick anyway - never mind them being ruddy nestlé!

  • ..... "each to their own"

I agree but a lot of people are not aware of what goes on and I see the bigger picture and think beyond my stomach

since I learnt about the cause of millions of babies dying I think I would choke if I ate a quality street, kit kat or a yorkie

  • I wouldn't buy from Nestle either, for the same reasons!

Saraseahorse - I'm sorry for being so behind the times but I didn't realise Nestle were so 'bad'. I'm all for breastfeeding - both my boys for 18 months and the 2nd one never so much as looked at formula. Where can I find out about these companies to boycott? I would love to spread the message

Merry Christmas to you too  :D

I've seen your link - are there any others, is what I meant to ask?
  • the link I gave is for my main source of information

For anyone reading this who thinks this is some sort of vendetta against bottle feeding, then it is not.

It is about babies being fed safely and appropriately. Companies such as Nestle break the law; both directly and indirectly causing the suffering and needless death of children.

I am a breast feeding mum but you don't have to have breast fed to care about this issue. Bottle feeding parents too join the boycott.

the point i was making is that recently its dont eat this because dont buy your petrol there because dont see this because there seem tobe more boycotts out there today than ever before.. and yes i did breastfeed and bottle feed my child ... also if anyone eats 15 bars they deserve to be sick so thats why some people eat a bar at a time..

i have read the info in the link but i wont be banning my family from enjoying the nestle range ..
