Selling house after breaking up

Im in a tricky situation as my girlfriend and I have just broken up, the house and mortgage are in our joint names. The problem is, she refuses to move out, even though she has never paid a penny towards the mortgage, and refuses to pay anything towards it in the future, I want her to move out so the house can be sold, as I have property overseas that I intend to live in.
I really need a quick fix to this as a recent job change has left me will a lower salary and I cant afford to keep paying this mortgage, especially for a house I dont live in!
Any ideas??

Experience tells me that these situations rarely have "quick fixes"0 -
You can't force her to move out. She is on the mortgage and presumably the house deeds, so owns it as much as you do, whether she pays for it or not. Unfortunately what often needs to happen in these situations is that you need to stop paying too, and let the house get repossessed, trashing both of your credit ratings.
Get yourself a family solicitor ASAP.poppy100 -
Other than move back in, force a sale (not recommended) not a lot you can do (other than the above)0

I had to force a sale due to an ex bunny boiler extraordinary.
Dont hang about, appoint a solicitor asap. please dont pick a meek quiet one, you need a pitbull with PMT.0 -
It is really sad when this sort of thing happens and there is no quick fix.
I wish people who bought properties together really thought things through more and read threads like this one before they did so. They make this tremendous financial commitment to each other yet are not prepared to commit to marriage. OK, I know, many marriages fail, but at least it implies an extra step of commitment. Often relationships can end amicably but sometimes it is messy.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Move back in.
Have overnight guests.
Quickest way to get her to agree to move out.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
