Fraudulent transaction...

I've just logged into my online banking and I was massively overdrawn with a £1900 withdrawal by a name I've never heard of. Definitely 100% fraudulent. I just called my bank and they closed at 8pm. Any ideas on the best course of action? The transaction is dated today...
I e-mailed the bank but no idea how soon I'd get a response.
I had something happen on another account before where someone had got hold of my replacement card sent to another address. I did also have a similar thing happen on a credit card account.
It's really annoying as I thoroughly check cash machines for anything suspicious, only use https sites to buy things and shred all receipts etc. Absolutely no idea how this could have happened...??!

Firstly you need to call the emergency number and get the card cancelled.

How was the money taken - what type of transaction?

What a disaster! I called the bank's number and when I selected the option to report a card lost or stolen I got an announcement saying their offices were closed...
I called another number I had and they put me through to a business line who also couldn't help. I called again and got someone who was then willing to enquire for me and asked what I wanted to do?! I told her I wanted my card cancelled and she took down my card details and bank account number and said she'd let my bank know when they start in the morning and that any transactions than might occur between now and the morning could be disputed!
I called the local police to enquire about any cloning activities in the area and they said they don't deal with fraud any more, I should just speak to the bank...
I've no idea how the money was taken it just has someone's name in the format 'A SMITH' but a name I definitely don't recognise. It looks like it would if it was a cheque...

It may have been a transfer - seems they have compromised your internet banking.

I would visit the Techie Board and follow their advice on securing your computer as well as changing ALL your passwords after the PC 'clean up'

Follow Socrates advice and then time to ditch and switch I think.

Thanks socrates, it would be a bit of an embarassment for me if that was the case as I work in IT support. My laptop has XP SP3 with all the latest updates and I run scans for all sorts of things regularly, keep my AV and anti-spyware apps up to date and practically know every process running on my machine and would spot anything unusual.
I'm anxious to know what the bank advises tomorrow.
Has anyone known of fraudulent transactions not being credited back? That's my main concern as it practically hit my overdraft limit...

I made some online purchases in recent months from sites which should have been trustworthy, what I always fear is the amount of financial information being handled by call centres/processing centres abroad where data security might not be that great and employees are willing to sell customer info for minimal payment...

What ever you do keep a full record of everything including who you spoke to and when.

Then put everything in writing to Cahoot. Send your letter recorded and keep a copy.

In your letter ask them how the crime was perpetrated and what actions you should take to protect yourself. I'd also ask them for confirmation they've reported this to the police.

    Good luck.

Info alone would not be good enough - they would need passwords.

If you continue listening to that message it will tell you that you can report a lost/stolen card on 01908936074... Which is disconnected. What a joke of a bank that is.
