Masive Bills

I share a medium sized 2 bedroom flat with my partner that is fully electrically run. We get a different rate for day units and night units but no E7 or anything.

Our bill for last quarter was £432 and this quarter £377, averaging 17 dayunits and 25 night units per day.

Is this massive, or am I being a fool. We both work during the day and we have no children or anything.

I am worried...please help me!!

Please explain i.e. what is your tariff?

What type of heating do you have? You are using quite a bit of night energy so you would probably benefit from an economy 7 tariff.

...and what is your heating arrangement?

If you used 42 units over the last twenty-four hours, then you got worry!

Do you have the heating on overnight? The cost is not excessive but it depends on what you are using. Do you have storage heaters or regular heaters? Have you checked your meter in the morning and when you've come home? Why do you have any overnight consumption?

I have just found on bill that my tariff is Economy7, sorry! We have the heating on generally for 1hr first thing in the morning and sometimes one hour at night. the last couple of months we have hardly used it at all due to the milder weather. We do not leave anything on overnight as we turn all appliances off at the wall. hope this is more info

Are the meter readings actual or estimated?

Actual, but there has to be an error somewhere for example. I took a reading lat 7pm last night and since our last billed reading 17 days ago it is saying we have used 351 day units and 1565 night units. I took a reading again at 12pm this afternoon, and we have only used 1 day and 1 night unit during the night so how could we have possibly used 1565 night units in 17 days previously?

Seems a little worrying to me

Are you sure it's your meter you're reading? And if it is yours, whether anyone else is getting their electricity supply through it.

Try switching everything (including fridge, freezer etc) off at the wall and seeing whether the meter goes round...

I am starting to get obsessed with my electricity meter. I have just read my meter again and I have somehow used 7 'Night Units' between 12pm and 830pm today when I haven't even been in the house and night units are meant to be between 12am and 7am
