best way to clean a spa bath

i have a spa bath which i need to clean as there are black bits coming from the pipes and filter, what is the best thing to use to clean the pipes and filter and how often should it be cleaned

Stick a dishwasher tablet in the bath. Fill with hot water to the jets. Run the pump for half an hour.
