Hi Guys,
Phoned virgin media to cancel as i am moving address and do not have access to cable at my new address, so cannot just change my address.
Even though I have been with Virgin media for 4 years, they want to charge me £110.36 to cancel the contract . They say i still have 6 months left of my current contract as i upgraded my tv package last year.
We are not working at this moment in time and cannot afford this charge.
It is not our fault they do not have cable at our new address and feel we are being unfairly penalised.
Any advice on how to cancel without paying this cancellation fee would be great.
Thanks

This has been covered many times on this board, and unfortunately they can charge you an early termination fee, as the contract you agreed to was for x months at your current address, not for any other UK address. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for that philnicandamy & Macman,
I have spoken to Virgin today and also CAB Who say i do not have a leg to stand on , so i am going to write to their customer service dept and appeal to their sense of fairness.
If this does not work i will be forced to transfer my phone line rental to BT and keep my phone calls and internet with Virgin, whilst this means no cancellation fee I will still be stuck with them for a further 12 month , (as classed as a another new contract) and i will have 3 separate bills, 1 to BT, 1 to Virgin Media & 1 to Sky and will cost me more in the long run.
Looks like we will be forced to do without the sat tv and use our freeview box just now due to extra cost.
Absolutely shocking that this can happen, it should be written in that the contract should automatically stop when they cannot supply the agreed services on the contract at the new address.
Interestingly I was reading other threads and apparantly you can cancel without a problem within 30 days if they increase their prices without incurring a cancellation fee, as they have broken the agreed contract, it's under section J of their contract, so will be looking out for this in near future.0 -
By all means try, but you will find that VM do not have any 'sense of fairness'. CAB are correct in the advice they have given you.
If you had moved to a small remote island of the coast of Scotland, would you still expect VM to cable you up? I think not. Only a small part of the UK is covered by cable networks. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
